It was my complete honor to capture the wedding of Josh Gallagher and Lindsey Miller in Altoona, PA this October. Their ceremony was a timeless, romantic and traditional Catholic Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by a reception at the UVA Club. While it was a wedding in the city, Josh and Lindsey made sure to put their classy country twist in every element of their wedding day, even in the smallest of ways and in the most unlikely places. For the record, Josh and Lindsey stole my heart long before he was a contestant on The Voice. I think it had to be the moment he started playing his guitar during their engagement session, and got her to come out of her shell a little bit and sing along with him, just the 4 of us on a country road in Pennsylvania. I have had the pleasure to meet and work with Josh and Lindsey for their engagement session when they came home to visit their family this passed summer. Let me tell you a little bit about the wedding that made Lindsey #4everhisGALlagher AND his wife.

Lindsey is a genuine sweetheart, no really, she is. When we met her at the Cathedral, she was calm, EXCITED, but not nervous, and at least if she was, you would have never known. We had a lot of laughs in the back room where the girls were getting ready, and as always, when Lindsey saw us, I was greeted with a hug, because that is just the person she is. She has a way of making you feel like an old friend, even if you’ve never met her before, and I love that about her.

When we first went into the room where the guys were getting ready, in true Josh fashion, we were greeted with hugs, and a big ‘ol smile! These two are a perfect match, their personalities compliment each other perfectly. Aary had a little bit of a fan moment when she saw Josh, when she told him “I saw you on TV” and Josh said “I don’t know what you’re talking about” LOL!

For the first time ever at a wedding, I got to experience the exchange of gifts between the bride and groom. This was an awesome moment to capture. Lindsey had her maid of honor deliver a laptop that had a song on it, that she wrote specifically for Josh on their wedding day. The gift was the video of her singing the song to him. It was a beautiful moment, and Josh absolutely loved it. She also gave him a new harmonica, which he also thought was great! Josh sent his best man to deliver Lindsey’s gifts to her, and the first gift she opened had her laughing really bad, it was a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses! His serious gift was a stunning necklace for her to wear, which she did, right before she walked down the aisle to see her groom for the first time.

My favorite moment of any wedding is the moment when the groom sees the bride for the first time. I am always curious what his reaction will be. Will he smile, laugh, cry? It is something that can’t be faked, and it really tells a story. Josh didn’t disappoint me, and he gave Lindsey that look that every bride wants, and yes he even shed a few tears…and yes it makes me cry when a man gets that emotional, and I am not even sorry about it!

The ceremony was beautiful, and if you know Josh at all, you will know he is NEVER serious, and he is always goofing off and having a great time, making people smile. So when I caught him making a funny face at Lindsey during the ceremony to make her smile, it didn’t surprise me one bit, and I thought it was great lol!

Josh and Lindsey had a lot of family at the ceremony, and we got to get them all together for one giant photo at the end, and getting that many people to look at me, hopefully smile and not blink was an amazing undertaking, but we got it done!

For the formal portraits, I scouted locations before the wedding day, and came up with an awesome location at a private residence of a very nice guy named Nate. Thank you Nate! Josh and Lindsey wanted a country vibe in their pictures, and we didn’t have time to drive very far, so this place worked out beautifully for that. We were on a farm, so there were animals, and some of them decided to crash our photo shoot, and terrify me in the process (I hate chickens, they plot on me I am sure of it!) So, as I am shooting their portraits, Josh and Lindsey were standing by the barn all cozy, and lovey lovey when all of a sudden, the boss chicken and his lackey came around the corner and decided we were on their turf, when I saw the roosters, I almost jumped out of my skin, which was apparently great entertainment for my bride and groom (you’re welcome!) Josh was a gentleman though, he called in the groomsmen and had them get the chickens away from me and back into their pen/nest whatever you call it! Fast forward to the bridal portraits, Lindsey asked me to get a photo of her so you could see her boots, absolutely I say! Josh, man you’re a joy to be around, he really couldn’t be left out of this shot, so Josh proceeded to hike up his pants and show off his boots too, which left me with an epic shot of the bride and groom. Oh and how could I forget, a donkey photo bombed us as well, and since I am not terrified of donkey’s I had to take a selfie with it, and my lovely bride and groom joined in on the antics, we had a blast, and I loved every minute of it.

After we left from the portrait site, we headed to the reception at the UVA Club in Altoona. The highlight of the reception, at least for me was the first dance for Josh and Lindsey, because the song they danced to was a surprise for her, Josh wrote and recorded their first dance song for her. Which I have a beautiful iPhone video of on my Facebook page HERE! Josh’s song is beautiful and I was so overjoyed to be able to experience this moment and even more so to be the one to capture this moment for them.

There was a lot of laughs, and tons of dancing, and you know it is an amazing wedding when the DJ stays longer than they were scheduled and the photographer stays until the very end of the night (LITERALLY!). Everyone was having an amazing time celebrating this most special of days for Josh and Lindsey, I think it is safe to say, this was one of the most memorable, special weddings I have ever been a part of. The bride and groom treated us like lifelong friends, their families were amazing and complimented us on our work, by far the nicest group of people I have ever had the pleasure working with.
